Programming WeDo 2.0 robots: Beginner to Advanced

This course consists of 25 lesson plans for the entire school year, which familiarize younger students with the fundamentals of programming and mechanics in the most approachable way - with the help of friendly robots made of WeDo 2.0.
During this course, you will build real-life and fanstastical machines, animals and insects, all with your own hands. For every robot, you will create a program in the easy-to-understand WeDo 2.0 programming app. And in the process, you will absorb tons of knowledge!
Lessons available in monthly and annual subscriptions.

This educational programming course with a different WeDo 2.0 robot on every lesson guides students through the fundamentals of coding, introduces them to mechanics, and guarantees unforgettable lessons throughout the school year. In every lesson you will find:

  • extensive introduction illustrated with graphics and animations,
  • detailed instructions for building LEGO® SPIKE Prime robot,
  • step-by-step programming guide for SPIKE Prime programming app,
  • useful cross-sections of the construction,
  • access to additional teaching resources.

Lesson plans

BUTTERFLY
Look upon the beauty of nature and spread your wings. Select one of the most beautiful butterfly species, then print and color its paper wings, so that you can finally bring this robotic specimen to life.

FERRIS WHEEL
The best amusement park attraction is now a programmable robot. Even better, YOU get to decide how and when this colorful wheel rotates. Catch a ride on this awesome robot and discover the most impressive Ferris wheels around the world.

Robot designed for: LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 (#45300) and WeDo 2.0 programming app.
CAR RACE
Go faster! For one day, you can become a professional race driver by building and programming a race track simulator. Before you take off, you will already know the engineering solutions applied in racing by heart.

CRANE
Cities often need harbors, and harbors need cranes. Widely used today, they wouldn’t exist without Archimedes’ insight. Build a robotic crane and learn about physics, turntables and basic programming at the same time.
HORSE
This horse is living any horse’s dream - running all day long. And you can learn a lot from building it, too. For example, you will learn the intricacies of pistons and how they turn rotational motion into linear motion.
DRAGONFLY
Want to have a robotic dragonfly pet? Build one! The unique construction of this model makes it possible for the insect to always face forward, despite making frequent turns. Create the program, activate and watch it fly.
PUMP
Have you ever seen a nodding donkey? Now you can build one. This lesson will teach you about fossil fuel extraction, converting rotational motion into linear and basic commands needed to make the pump move.
COSMIC CHASE
Organize a race of two starfighters right on your desk. You’ll build the entire construction from scratch, yet you won’t be able to predict the outcome of this race. How come? Randomness at work.
GIRAFFE
Build and gaze upon this magnificent giraffe. Fortunately, this time you can actually look down instead of up! Learn all about the lifestyle of these animals and find out how to create a basic program activating the motor.
SCORPION
Look out, this scorpion is ready to attack anything in its sight! Build its impressive tail and powerful, mobile claws, then program the sensor of this predator to detect and strike down its next prey.
VENUS FLYTRAP
This robotic plant is just as dangerous as the original. Test it yourself. Follow instructions to assemble the plant and make the built-in motion sensor decide when the trap should close. Mind your fingers!
BIPLANE
Man always wanted to fly. Find out what effort was required to design and launch modern airliners and create your own biplane model from LEGO bricks. You’ll also make an advanced gear transmission and a dedicated program.
CAROUSEL
Carousels are attractions featured in all amusement parks… and in your robotics lab! Use this robotic project to learn about centrifugal force and the intriguing history of merry-go-rounds.

Robot designed for: LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 (#45300) and WeDo 2.0 programming app.
MOTORCYCLE
Hop on your robotic motorcycle and explore the town! During this lesson, you’ll use tires for traction, gears for drive, driveshaft for power and programming blocks to start your motor and keep track of its brisk activity.

Robot designed for: LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 (#45300) and WeDo 2.0 programming app.
WIND TURBINE
They look impressive from the outside, but are even more amazing if you look at the science hidden inside. Learn all about it by building this bright, miniature wind turbine model and programming it to rotate.
GORILLA
Befriend this energetic gorilla by offering him bananas for a snack. Start by learning more about primates and the relationship between homo sapiens and gorillas, then proceed to building and programming this charming robot.
OWL
Do you know which birds flap their wings the fastest, or what species spend almost their entire lives in the air? Or how come birds can fly? Learn all that and more by building an owl, a fearless night predator, from bricks and paper.

Robot designed for: LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 (#45300) and WeDo 2.0 programming app.
HELICOPTER
Indispensable in emergencies. Create a helicopter model with motor that powers main and tail rotors at the same time. Add a sensor to detect the robot’s position, just like real helicopters do, some code and voila!
SPACE FIGHTER
Maneuver through the Milky Way and reach the end of galaxy onboard this amazing fighter. Although it’s not doable in real life yet, it wouldn’t be the first time science fiction influenced the imagination of real-life engineers.
ROBOTIC ARM
Great strength paired with great precision is sometimes beyond humans’ reach. That’s where robots step in. Build and program a robotic arm to learn how high-tech machines aid people in laboratories, warehouses, or in space.
PLANETARY WALKER
Examine unknown surface from a safe distance. Hop on the surface walker, which steadily advances forward - unless there’s an obstacle in its way. Can you think of an animal that walks in a similar manner?
NEST
How do robotic nestlings know when to ask for food? Thanks to their sensors! Young birds need nutrition to grow and these two demand it by chirping and jumping. Build, code and learn what homes other birds live in.
FORKLIFT
You’ve seen them in store, but do you know how they work? This forklift model was designed to be stable and mobile at the same time. Build one yourself and create a script to lift and lower your cargo.
FLIGHT SIMULATOR
Have you ever wondered what makes airplanes stay in the air? This lesson focuses on technological and engineering solutions used in planes today and gives you a chance to create your miniature flying simulator.
SPIROGRAPH
This robot will mesmerize you with a variety of beautiful patterns. Your task is to build this robotic art machine, then program its motors to draw spirals and curves. Together, you will become the unforgettable modern art duo!
